2005-2006 Education Outreach Programs
Introducing Girls to Engineering Workshop Saturday, January 21, 2006, Merritt Island HS. A one day program with hands on activities for girls in 3rd to 9th grades and their parents. Registration opens in November at www.swe-sc.org/IGEW. Cost for this program is $15 per person, but is free for any girls who qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Teacher Hands On Science Workshop Monday, February 20, 2006. Location TBD. A Teacher In Service Workshop with hands on activities selected from those done in our Introducing Girls to Engineering Workshop.
Robotics Workshop for Teachers Monday, February 20, 2006. Location TBD. A one day Teacher In Service Workshop introducing, constructing and programming LEGO Robots using the LEOG Mindstorms Robotics Kits. Hints on setting up and coaching a FIRST LEGO League Team will be provided.
Engineers Week Speakers We will be providing speakers to present a special program in your classroom during Engineers Week, Feb. 20 24. Details and instructions for requesting a speaker will be available online at www.swe-sc.org/EWEEK on or after January 1, 2006.
Science Fair Awards We judge and provide monetary awards for the outstanding engineering related projects presented by young women at the regional science fairs in Brevard, Indian River and Volusia Counties.
College Scholarships One or more $1000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating senior women from Brevard, Indian River or Volusia Counties who will be majoring in engineering, computer science or math. Applications are available online at www.swe-sc.org and are due no later than January 15.
Camp KSC Scholarships Scholarships will be awarded to over 15 girls in 3rd to 8th grade to attend the one-week day camp program at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center. Half of these scholarships will be awarded based on need, half on academic achievement. Applications will be available online at www.swe-sc.org and are due no later than March 1.
Robotics Summer Camp for Girls A one week
day camp will be conducted for girls in the 5th and 6th
grade during June and/or July. Dates
and locations will be announced by March 15 with registration opening on March
15 at www.swe-sc.org/Robotics.
We are hoping to expand this program from one session to four sessions in
2006.
