Planning is underway for this year’s Introduce a Girl to Engineering (IGEW) Virtual Workshop set for Saturday, June 5 from 1 PM-4 PM via Zoom. We are looking for module leaders, room leaders and general help with stuffing boxes to be shipped to students.
If you are willing to be a volunteer, please register on Eventbrite by May 5th at
Volunteer Training and Virtual Dry Run (via Zoom) will be Saturday May 22 from 2 PM-4 PM. This training is mandatory for all Room Leaders and Module Leaders.
The plan: Module leaders will lead a hands-on activity virtually thru Zoom with 3rd thru 6th grade girls (no more than 6 girls to a breakout room). The activities being offered for 2021 IGEW are:
- Build a Bedroom Alarm
- Build a Lunar Lander
The logistics are still being finalized but the intent is to have multiple breakout rooms with each of these activities running at the same time to keep class sizes small. One module leader and one room leader will be needed for each breakout room with six girls. The number of module leaders and room leaders we get to register will determine how many iterations we can offer and how many students we can register, so please get the word out if you know others who might be interested in volunteering as well! SWE membership is not required in order to volunteer. All supplies and instructions will be shipped to the module leaders and students ahead of the event by SWE. Module leaders will just be responsible for conducting their module (1 of the 2 listed above) virtually via Zoom. Room leaders will stay in each breakout room to help introduce the module leader, monitor the Zoom chat for questions, keep track of time, etc.
