The plan:  we will have 6 Zoom breakout rooms with 10 girls in each room for a total of 60 girls.  All of the girls will do 3 modules and then a panel session with everyone doing the same modules but at different times.  We are still working out the Logistics of managing the rooms, but have identified the modules:

  • Building a Flashing LED circuit (need 1 more electrical engineer leaders)
  • Duct Tape Creations
  • How to code  (being led by Codecraft volunteers)

We will be shipping all the supplies and instructions to the students.  Module leaders will just be responsible for conducting their module three times.  We plan to have two module leaders (separate rooms) for each module.

We also need 6 room leaders who will stay with their 10 girls for the full afternoon, introducing the module leaders, watching the chat screen to help with questions, keeping track of time, conducting simple exercise breaks between modules, etc.

Panel leader will be the same as in a normal panel (introducing the panel) but will also be reading questions out from the chat screen.   Panel members will be women engineers from different disciplines talking about their job, how they chose their engineering discipline and their college experience.

  • Initial training (via Zoom) will be Sunday afternoon, Sept 13
  • Full Demo (via Zoom with breakout rooms) Saturday Oct 3 or Sunday Oct 4.

Both training sessions are Mandatory for Room Leaders and Module Leaders.

UF OEM Part-Time Engineering Master’s Program Info. Virtual Session – June 23rd. 12:00-1:30 PM

Designed for full-time working professionals, the University of Florida Outreach Engineering Management (OEM) Program is a highly flexible engineering management master’s degree that features live instruction with classes meeting only one weekend per month (currently meeting online due to COVID19, but in-person classes will resume in Orlando, FL when possible). The infrequency of class meetings and the exceptional value of the program make it viable for students to participate from a distance.

Once in the program, students take the same five engineering courses and five business courses as a cohort, which provides excellent networking opportunities. The next program begins in August, and awards an MS degree in industrial & systems engineering. For many students, OEM is a solution to the problem of whether to get a technical master’s degree or an MBA. Students who want to get both degrees can do so through a concurrent degree option which requires only 12 more months of study (32 months to get both master’s degrees; MBA can be done online).

The OEM Program seeks to increase enrollment among female students and thereby further professional development and career advancement for these students. We will be having an online information session on 6/23/20 for SWE members, and invite you to join us. An alumnae panel will share insight about their experiences in the program, and points they considered when selecting a graduate program.
