Proposed Slate for Election 2018-2019

The following people have been presented as candidates for office for the 2018-2019 SWE Space Coast officers.  Additional candidates can be nominated by petition if supported by 5 voting members.

Petitions will be accepted until May 14 by email to nomchair@swe-sc.org

The final slate and ballot will be sent to voting members on May 15 with responses due no later than June 5.

PresidentAdia Griffin
Adia has been at Kennedy Space Center for 11 years, for the last 5 years she has been working for Jacobs Technology as the Pressure Vessel and Pressurized Systems Subject Matter Expert and Lead Fluids Design Engineer. Adia serves as an Ambassador to the Clarkson School at Clarkson University where she encourages those high school students ready to take the next step ahead of schedule to go to the college a year early as she did. The Clarkson School invited her back to give the commencement speech in for the class of 2017. Adia has been a member of SWE since her early college years at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where she received her Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering Physics. She has been a part of the Executive Council since 2010 taking on the role of Newsletter Editor and Publicity Chair and Outreach Director. She has participated in our outreach events since 2009 and a few years later became Chair of Wow! That’s Engineering Workshop, which she has continuously lead since 2012. As Director of Outreach 2013 & 2014, Adia raised over $11,000 for our outreach programs seeking local company donations. She also took on the Chair role of Introducing Girls to Engineering Workshop 2014 and has been training or co-chairing this event since.  For the past two terms, Adia, has also been supporting SWE Space Coast  as  Section Vice President. Adia received the SWE Space Coast Outstanding Woman Engineer of the Year Award for 2016. Adia continues to represent the SWE Space Coast Section in the community through other outreach events as well.

Vice President: Carolyn Bacqué-Carson
Carol has been a quality engineer in the Safety & Mission Assurance division supporting the Launch Services Program at NASA Kennedy Space Center for the past four years. Carol supports the Atlas V, Delta II, Delta IV, Pegasus & Falcon 9 missions that launch NASA’s spacecraft. Prior to that she was a hypergolic fluids engineer for NASA working on the Auxiliary Power Units (APU) for the Orbiter and Solid Rocket Boosters for three years. She also worked as a contractor at United Space Alliance for four years working on the Orbiter Maneuvering /Reaction Control Systems and APU. Carol earned her degree in Aerospace Engineering in 2004 and her Master of Science in Management in Aviation/Aerospace Industrial Management in 2008 from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU).  While attending college Carol also acquired her private pilot’s license and instrument rating for single engine airplanes. She joined SWE while at ERAU and has been a member ever since. Carol is the current section President and has been the section Secretary, Vice President, Treasurer, scholarship chair, ERAU collegiate counselor, IGEW/WOW module leader, publicity chair and an overall active professional member.

Secretary: Jamie McLean
Jamie works for APT Research as SMASS III Program Manager for the KSC NASA Safety & Mission Assurance contract and manages the day to day SMASS III activities and operations supporting NASA Safety and Mission Assurance divisions. She has thirty years of KSC experience in Safety Engineering, Quality Engineering and Industrial Engineering with United Space Alliance and Lockheed.

Jamie received her BS in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech.  She is member of the National Space Club; supported SWE Awards committee and outreach projects over the years. She supports the Space Coast Georgia Tech Club on the Scholarship Evaluation Committee, 2005-2015.; Georgia Tech, College of Engineering, Council of Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni, Inducted 1996; Georgia Tech, Athletic Hall of Fame, Elected 1992.  Jamie served as section secretary this year.

Treasurer: Judy Kersey
Judy has been an active member of SWE since 1974 and is now a Fellow Life Member.  She has served in a wide variety of positions within the section, including Section President and Treasurer and is currently the Chair of the Finance Committee.  She has also been very active at the national SWE level including chairing several national committees and serving on the Board of Directors as the Director of Region D (Southeast) in 2000-2002 and 2004-2006.  Judy retired from NASA in 1995 after working in a variety of engineering positions.  When she retired, she was Deputy Director of Electronic Engineering Development.

Director of Professional DevelopJuliette Mondesir Adams
Juliette received her BBA from Pace University and is currently a graduate candidate at Penn State University, where she will earn her Masters degree in Organization Development and Change Management this summer.   She has a progressive 20 year career in Human Resources working for Fortune 100 companies like Goldman Sachs, prior to relocating to Brevard County in 2007.  Shortly after, Juliette joined the Human Resources Business Partner organization at local aerospace and defense company Rockwell Collins, she gained frontline exposure to the disparity of women in the field of engineering, the importance of diversity the workforce and the need to support the growth and development of women in the field.

Juliette’s passion and advocacy propelled when her daughter expressed an interest in the field at the age of 10.    She became a member of SWE at both the national and local level in 2016, and during this time she has volunteered as a scholarship reviewer and has partnered with the local chapter to provide corporate sponsorship for the annual WOW That’s Engineering outreach event.

Juliette currently serves on the board of Codecraft Foundation – Vice Chair, The Community Foundation for Brevard – Director, Melbourne High School – School Advisory Committee – Chairperson, and is an active member of the Brevard County Chapter of The Links Incorporated.

Director of Outreach: Kristina Gonzalez
Kristina is a fluids test engineer for NASA’s Exploration Payloads Branch at Kennedy Space Center. She primarily supports the International Space Station and Exploration Ground Systems programs through flight hardware processing and testing of systems that provide life support and environmental control to spacecraft and payloads. Kristina earned her BS in Mechanical Engineering, minor in Aerospace Engineering from Lehigh University in 2013. She is currently working towards her MS in Space Systems Management from Florida Institute of Technology and expects to graduate in July 2018.

Kristina joined SWE as a professional member in 2015 with the Space Coast section and has been active both locally and nationally, volunteering for the annual Wow! and IGEW events, attending various SWE annual conferences, and promoting legislation for women in STEM at SWE Congressional Day 2017. Kristina seeks opportunities to mentor middle school, high school, and undergraduate students within the community through other various outreach events at NASA Kennedy Space Center and within Brevard County as a member of the Launch STEM Careers Program. She is passionate about inspiring the next generation into STEM and looks forward to carrying that passion into the Director of Outreach position.
